pecha kucha – the fast-paced presentation

Do you have a pitch coming up where you only have limited time? Or are you looking for a refreshing presentation format that showcases your expertise and encourages your audience to ask questions? Search no more—read on!

Pecha Kucha is the answer. It’s a presentation format that originated in the early 2000s. A Japanese architectural duo grew tired of overly long presentations, so they created a concept where 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each. You’re probably doing the math… but we’ll save you the headache: that’s a total presentation time of 6 minutes and 40 seconds! After that, the audience can ask questions.

So how do you approach it?

Start by thinking about the key points you want to cover. Once you have those, you can develop them further for yourself. Try to structure your presentation across 18 slides, and reserve 2 slides for your intro and outro. And what should you put on those slides…? You may not like to hear it, but—ditch the text! Make it highly visual. Choose one image per slide that aligns with what you’re saying. These visuals will also serve as memory cues for yourself.

That’s it—you’re now ready to get started!
Arigato and good luck!
